In this series, we explore some of the Cisco Networking Academy course certifications in relation to the importance and benefits of becoming certified.

Join us as we take a deep dive into certifications such as IT Essentials, CCNA R&S, CCENT, CCNA Security, Linux and Programming. We will discuss the purpose, possible job roles and responsibilities, as well as career pathways for each. Our speakers will also discuss the differences between certifications and degrees and how they complement one another rather than cancel the other out.

Session 3: Ways to Navigate Your Career in Cybersecurity - CCNA CyberOps & CCNA Security

A career in cybersecurity can be full of twists and turns, unexpected detours, and even a few shortcuts. No two paths are exactly the same, and there are many ways to get started. Beyond the multiple pathways, there are more roles in cybersecurity than ever before and new roles continue to surface. In each of these roles, different skills are needed. Given this level of complexity, the question arises: how can you navigate your career in cybersecurity?

Our speaker, Tom Gilheany, will describe key career pathways that individuals can choose in in cybersecurity and how to move forward with purpose. He is a portfolio manager of security training and certifications as well as a member of the U.S. government sponsored National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) working group.

He will cover the below topics:

  • CCNA Security and CCNA Cyber Ops certifications
  • Skills needed for specific job roles in this field
  • Ways to obtain skills for these cybersecurity roles
